edinburgh pride
22/06/24we had a bit of a nightmare getting to edinburgh pride. i can't bring myself to tell the whole story, but basically the bus we were gonna get never turned up. the company (flixbus) officially says that the bus did turn up and left without issue, so i can't get a refund. we had to get a different bus. maybe losing £15 isn't the end of the world, but it wasn't a good start to the day.
walking around edinburgh was a little disconcerting, because we didn't see anyone who looked like they were going to pride. because of the bus struggle, we were worried we'd got the wrong day (even though i knew we didn't). but as soon as we got close to holyrood it became obvious it was gay time. yay!
edinburgh pride is great. it's a large event with a lot of people, but it still manages to have more of a community feeling to it. we went over to an area near where the palestine solidarity camp was, and attended a small workshop on pinkwashing, a topic i certainly feel needs more discussion in the wider community.
there was a strong pro-palestine presence throughout the march. i can't find how many people attended the event, but i know that edinburgh pride is said to be scotland's longest-running pride march
after the march, we hung out around edinburgh all day. we saw artists perform on stage, including atomic kitten. we saw a drag performance in cc blooms. we talked to a man in the banshee's labyrinth who had a project about walking and i wish i remembered more than that! it might have been this guy but i don't remember. i'm sad.
