creative experiment documentation
25/09/23over the last ~2.5 weeks, i've been experimenting (too slowly) with all that stuff i talked about getting in my last post. so far i've not made much i'm all that proud of, but i'm trying to document my progress and think about this stuff critically, instead of just being frustrated with myself and giving up.
i think if i try to make a post here regularly, it'll hopefully keep me just stressed enough to actually do stuff.
felt
when i was a kid, i made tiny plush things evry now and then. it was never a passion of mine, but i did always enjoy it. sewing is fun for me- it's a good balance between repitative and concentration-y...(?) that keeps me engaged well. i can just do it while listening to music or something for hours
looking at all the little guys i made, i'm really happy with the progress i made. the first one i used a whip stitch (?) for the first one which was a mistake, i thought it'd make it look purposely messy but it just looked messy. i switched to the other type of stitch i know (whatever that ones called), which is definitely better (also i know the faces on those ones aren't anything, i just felt bad leaving them facelss lol)
the 2 black cats are definitely my favourites, and they're the most recent ones i did as well which is a good sign
resin
mixing resin is hard. i seemed to get it clearest on my first attempt, which is annoying because i have no idea what i did differently.
i'm lucky enough to live nearby a lot of greenery, so putting tiny leaves and such in resin was an obvious first thing to do. i really like the moss ones! they look watery, though, so it's sad i didn't start doing this while i lived near all the great beaches i used to live next to
after that i've experimented slightly with paper doodles (not so great), and felt which didn't work all that well, but i think i know what to do to make it work next time. it's mostly about getting the right colours and making sure the things i want to show up are big enough to... show up.
overall, i'm happy with where i'm going but i need to stay consistent and practice more regularly. i'm trying to do something creative every day, whether that's drawing, these things, or at least working on this site (which i've also been meaning to do more of!!!)
here's a little to do list for myself, hopefully over the next week:
- get white felt
- make 3 more black cats
- make 2 cat heads in resin
- finish and publish my layout basecodes
- make zelda & adventure time fanart
oh also, we're doing with twilight princess! i'll have to write down my thoughts fully another time. the controls for skyward sword are gonna be difficult to sort out (we are emulating these things). we're getting close to me having to face my fears (play botw)
we're also watching adventure time, which i'm enjoying more than i was honestly expecting. i think i've let over-exposure via fandoms ruin too many things for me.
